Fire is a huge concern in any organization for everyone in the organization as well as everything inside it. As a security officer you must ensure the safety of everyone inside and outside of the organization as well as the personnel in it, to ensure this you have to go above and beyond the fire marshals’ requirements of approval.

Ways a security officer can go above and beyond the fire marshal is by making sure that your focus is more towards the areas in the building that are at a higher risk of fires. This includes rooms with electrical in it or places like a kitchen with fire causing materials such as the stove. You must also be able to easily access any electrical panels in the building.

Another would be to ensure all the fire safety equipment is tested regularly and also that it is up to date to ensure that it will function properly if it is needed. This is things like the smoke alarms and the fire extinguishers located in the facility.

You can also and should, make sure that every employee goes through a fire safety training course, it should also include different ways to go around it if one way is not possible in the situation. They should also be updated on where the fire safety equipment is located in the building in case the organization decides to switch places for it.

The company should also have detailed records over anything that is flammable or can prevent fires in any way. They must check if anything is leaking that may be flammable and everyone in the organization should be taught how to properly dispose of anything like this.

Fire safety is very important, if it is not treated as so it can lead to loss of life, equipment and the building itself. The security officers should do everything listed and more to make sure this does not happen.
