Physical computer storage is the hardware that a computer uses to save information. It is where files, programs, pictures, and the operating system are kept so they can be used later. Unlike temporary memory like RAM, physical storage keeps data saved even when the computer is turned off.
One way I like to think of physical storage is to think of it like a toy box. Just like a toy box holds toys so you can play with them later, computer storage holds information so the computer can access it whenever it is needed.
There are several types of physical storage. A Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is one of the traditional methods and stores data on spinning disks; you can think of it like a big toy box that holds lots and lots of toys, but sometimes it takes a little longer to find what we want. It can hold a lot of information but is usually slower than newer options. A Solid-State Drive (SSD) is a newer type of storage that uses flash memory instead of moving parts, which allows it to work much faster. I think of this as a super fast toy box where the computer can find its toys very quickly.Another storage method includes USB flash drives and external drives, which allow users to move or back up data between different computers.
Physical storage is essential because it allows computers to keep and retrieve information whenever it is needed.
