Ethernet cables are copper based cables that use RJ45 connectors to connect devices i.e computers, routers, and switches within a network. These cables are used in homes and businesses because they are reliable and cost effective. Different types of Ethernet cables, such as Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a, offer many different speeds and performance, however they all use the same RJ45 connector. Fiber optic cables transmit data using light through thin strands of glass or plastic. These cables use specialized connectors such as LC or SC and are commonly used in high-speed and long-distance networks, including internet service providers and large organizations. Fiber optic cables are faster and less affected by interference compared to traditional Ethernet cables.
