The expansion options of the computer provide users with different possibilities to enhance the performance and extend the capabilities of their systems. The most common enhancement is expanding RAM, which helps in handling multitasking and running memory-intensive applications. In such cases, the increase in available memory speeds up the processing of data and enhances the performance for tasks like video editing, gaming, and virtual machines that require more memory, as explained by (Patterson & Hennessy, 2017). Secondly, the upgrade of the graphic card enhances performance to a user who is into 3D rendering, gaming and machine learning because an independent GPU carries out complex graphic calculation with more effectiveness compared to the CPU. In this regard, (Tanenbaum & Bos, 2015) agree.
Having extra storage is an excellent choice for a user, that can be accomplished by adding SSDs or HDDs. SSDs, with their higher read/write speeds, raise the bar significantly higher for responsiveness in the system, quicker boot times, and speedier file transfers for users working with files whose sizes can be into the gigabytes. In addition, extending network capabilities through the addition of network cards increases connectivity and performance when high-speed access to the Internet or other devices on a network is needed; examples can include streaming or working in environments whose operations are supported by collaboration. These expansion options allow users to upgrade their computer systems to suit their needs without the added expense of buying a new system.
