This devotion speaks to me in a few ways. The first and most obvious application for me is to turn to the Lord when in need. Trust Him and He will provide. There have been times when I have been so stressed about how a situation will unfold or how I will make something happen, but when I give it to God, He provides and then some. When I think of these times, I am reminded of the passage in Ephesians: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21, NKJV).
The second application for me is the mention of how the showbread was not lawful for David to eat. Reading further in the chapter, Jesus highlights some other situations covered by the Old Testament law. Jesus came as an atonement for our sins, dealing with them once and for all, thus establishing a new covenant based on love, grace, and forgiveness.
