The motherboard is the main circuit board that connects all computer parts. Its responsibilities are physically connecting components, power distribution to each part, communication pathways between CPU, RAM or storage, and hosting essential firmware. It even supports the inputs/output ports such as the USB, HDMI and ethernet. Basically think of the motherboard as the nervous system or highway, in which it links all components and lets them work together as a whole. The CPU is essentially the brain, in which it is responsible for processing instructions and making decisions. It executes programs such as opening a browser, performs calculations like math for games or spreadsheets, manages logic and communicates with memory. Think of the CPU as the decision maker. It doesn’t store data or display graphics, but it tells other parts what to do and when. Together, the CPU thinks and gives commands. The motherboard connects everything so those commands can be carried out.
