MARK 7 – ALL THINGS WELL
“And were beyond measure astonished (the crowd and disciples), saying, He hath done all things well: he makes both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.” Mark 7:37
The words in Mark 7:37, “beyond measure,” point to surpassing a particular standard or expectation. In this case, we can find the same terminology used in Genesis 1:31 to describe God’s finished work in respect of His creation: “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good,” or for this application, was “beyond measure”— in this case, it was surpassing well.
Both scenarios were done in an exceeding matter and beyond measure/superabundance.
Physically speaking, the crowd was astonished by the physical miracles they had observed… the deaf to hear, the blind to see. But God was doing more than just performing miracles of good —God was unveiling the prophesied messiah “On that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of the deep darkness the eyes of the blind will see” (Isaiah 29:18). Although God delighted to heal man’s broken body, God desired even more to heal man’s broken soul.
CHALLENGE
Although the crowd marveled over Jesus’s physical healing, what God was doing was not fixing broken man —no, what God was doing was creating in man a new creation.
Concerning the spiritual healing of man’s soul, Paul wrote, “Therefore if any man is in Christ, Behold they are a new creation.” From the beginning of God’s creation until the spiritual reconciliation of man’s soul, God is miraculously giving man a new life. Do you need some spiritual healing? Then you found the right person. After all, Christ has done “all things well.” RPF
