KeymasterMATTHEW 11 – GOT REST?
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
Rest is a place of comfort, a place of security. It’s where the weary soul can find deep satisfaction. It’s where the heavy heart can find true peace.
Because there is no resting place in this world for the burdened, Jesus petitions to the masses, “Come to me… all of you who are weary”! The pursuit of happiness isn’t found in this world’s shallow treasures, nor the temporary passions of the flesh. No – it’s found in the heart of God.
And in His heart, there is true rest… Rest from the many expectations of this world. Rest from the demands of beauty and brilliance. Rest from all the garb this world claims you must become.
——This rest is discovered in the person of Christ who declares with absolute certainty, “I WILL GIVE YOU REST!
CHALLENGE
O weary soul, do you long to find that place where you can lye next to still waters? Where the river flows the stillness of God? My friend, true rest can only be found in the Lord Jesus. Have you found it? If not, Jesus is waiting.

ParticipantI find comfort with this week’s devotional because there are so many things in the world we need rest from. This could be rest from others’ expectations, rest from our own expectations, or rest from needing to do everything ourselves. Thankfully, with Jesus, we can receive rest. In fact, the passage in this devotional includes Jesus’s own words. Receiving the rest that Jesus offers us gives us freedom, especially the freedom to know that we do not have to save ourselves. Jesus has saved us and invites us to live in the blessing of that. We just need to come to Him and receive it. At times, we may be tempted to strive for things ourselves again or simply forget to rest, but He is always there for when we come back and give Him our burdens. It is amazing and comforting that there is nothing too difficult or heavy for Him to bear. He is so powerful and loving.
Have a blessed week everyone!

ParticipantInteresting post Isabelle! I really do like the fact that you mention freedom. I honestly have not thought of that before yet it makes perfect sense. Having that freedom when it comes to finding rest in Him sets the tone for all finding that comfort that we need. The best part about it is that He is always there when we need him.

ParticipantReading this devotional only confirms to me that in Him, I can definitely find peace and comfort. Every morning or throughout the day at work, my mind drifts and often times i find myself distracted thinking about personal problems that are affecting my daily life whether it be financial, physical or day to day problems the average person goes through. In those moments, i try to stop what i am doing and think about him. Coming to Him to me means letting go of those issues and entrusting Him to take care of it. There are many things in this world we often want to have or please, but at the end of the day, none of the worldly things are valuable in the long run. Only He can give us eternal rest by believing in Him with all your might and heart. Only then we can finally find and carry that peace with us knowing that He has taken care of everything for us.

ParticipantI find solace in this passage because it reminds me, I can cast my care on him, for He cares for me. 1st Peter 5:7 parallels this passage a lot because it connotes the peace you find when you give it all to God. When we truly enter into His rest, we allow God to becomes our source, our protection, as well as our provision. We can let go of all fear, anxiety, every doubt, every burden and just rest in the assurance that He is going to work it out.
The comforting thing about resting in God’s kingdom is there is room for everyone. The invitation to come is to all. Jesus came to seek and save them that were lost. This included everyone that recognized they needed Him. When we don’t rely on Him and continue to do things our way and make things happen on our own, we aren’t relying on God and are therefore have not truly entered into His rest. We must come to the realization that He can do a better job taking care of us than we could ever do on our own. True rest in Him requires faith and trust regardless of situations and circumstance. -

ParticipantThis devotion points out what Jesus offers in Matthew 11:28. It’s a good reminder that true rest isn’t something we find in achievements or the things this world chases after. Instead, it comes from going to Jesus, who gives us peace and comfort that goes way beyond what we can understand. That kind of rest frees us from all the pressure to be perfect or always do more. It’s about finding security in His presence and grace. The challenge to seek that stillness in Jesus is something we all need to hear, especially when life feels overwhelming. And if someone hasn’t found that rest yet, it’s comforting to know Jesus is always waiting, ready to give exactly what our souls need.

ParticipantI remember a time in my life when I would cling so tightly to this verse. I was a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, an employee, a worship leader. There were days and moments when I felt the weight of expectation from all of those “titles,” and sometimes I feared that weight would crush me. No amount of physical rest seemed to fix the exhaustion I sometimes felt inside. I remember hearing this verse and feeling as if God was speaking directly to me. I turned to the book of Matthew and studied all that I could on Matthew 11:28-30, turning it over and over in my mind. It was then that I realized I was trying to do everything in my own power, working as hard as I could in Jesus’ name, but not taking the time to rest in Him and consider His expectations. “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30).

ParticipantJesus invites those who are tired and carrying heavy burdens to come to Him for rest, as mentioned in Matthew 11:28. This rest is a place of comfort and safety, where those who are tired can find true satisfaction and peace. In a world that often doesn’t offer a real place to rest for those who are burdened, Jesus’ invitation highlights that true happiness and rest are not found in worldly things or temporary pleasures, but in God’s heart. This divine rest provides relief from the pressures and demands of the world, offering a safe haven for the soul in Jesus’ presence.
