MATTHEW 23 – UNLAWFUL BURDENS
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. Matthew 23:4
The Pharisees and Sadacees were strong religious leaders during Herod’s time. They were responsible for maintaining and enforcing the law of Moses. Over time, they became lovers of legalism and created “rabbinical” laws that were harsh and difficult to follow.
In many cases, they were perceived to be holy, upright and the moral standard where all of Israel should follow.
Although they enforced these rabbinical laws, they themselves failed to follow them. When they were suppose to be the moral standard, they had become doubled- faced, hypocrites and liars.
CHALLENGE
The Pharisees and saddaces were guilty of maintaining a facade of holiness. They “pretended” to be holy when they were, in fact, defiled and corrupt.
How is your life? Are you living a wholesome life; a life that God can bless or is it one of deception and lies? Don’t forget, God doesn’t look on the outside, He looks on the inside
