KeymasterMARK 2 – SICK
[W]hen Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:17
In this present age, many claims to be religious. They go to church. They play Christian music. They participate in church functions and events. Despite claiming they know God, they live no differently than the world. When Christians are to live in victory, many of them are engulfed in sin, living in a state of defeat, depression, and sadness.
This epidemic of “carnal Christianity” has sadly become the standard norm in Christendom as we observe a sinful ideology infiltrate the churches today. And how are the churches responding?… Small spiritual morsels of elementary bible devotions and superficial songs with very little biblical doctrine. While this is a good start, the house of God should be actively preaching against sin, holiness, righteousness, and accountability.
The results are apparent; a sin-sick church with desperately sick Christian children – manifesting very little spiritual fruit.
CHALLENGE
If you are a confessing Christian and living a cardinal and superficial lifestyle, then your diagnosis is likely that you are spiritually sick.
Christian, If you are in this circumstance, my friend, it’s time to give up. Stop fighting God and give up on Him. Give yourself to the great physician and let Him doctor your spiritual sores and shoulder your insurmountable burdens. RPF

ParticipantI think this week’s devotional relates to how we present ourselves. Many of us, in an attempt to be a better person, present ourselves to others with as perfect of an image as we can. However, we all have problems. I am not perfect, nor do I live without any issues, and neither do most people. Even with all of this, God is still with me and helps me in the midst of it. This is the hope we as Christians can share with others. We are not living perfect lives. We are living lives in a way that follows after Jesus. I know I will certainly not be perfect at this, but acknowledging that I need Jesus’ help is a great start. Like Mark 2:17 mentioned, we need help from Jesus, but we must realize that we are not perfectly righteous on our own without Him. We need his help and healing to live a life with Him.

ParticipantThis passage reminds us that Jesus came to help people who are spiritually sick, not those who believe they are already good. Many people say they are Christians but still live like everyone else, facing sin, sadness, and a lack of spiritual growth. Some of the churches only teach shallow lessons, which can leave believers weak instead of helping them grow in holiness and accountability. When Christians ignore sin, they produce little spiritual fruit and stay spiritually sick.
The challenge asks believers to be honest about their spiritual state. If someone is living a worldly or shallow lifestyle, they might need healing from God. The message is not to give up on God, but to stop resisting Him and allow Jesus, the “Great Physician,” to cleanse, restore, and strengthen them. As followers of Christ, we should examine ourselves and allow God to change us daily.

ParticipantWhen I read Jesus’s words in Mark 2:17, I find myself among the sick He came to heal. It is easy to notice weakness in the church, but harder to admit weakness in my own heart. I have had seasons where I claimed Christ and did all the Christian things, yet lived without spiritual power. It is in those moments I realize how deeply I need the Great Physician. Jesus did not come for those pretending to be strong, but for people like me who are willing to admit their need.
The more I think about the state of the church, the more I realize how easily my own heart drifts. I often want convenience instead of conviction and comfort instead of holiness. But Jesus keeps calling me back to surrender. If I am spiritually sick, I do not need to try harder; I need to lay my sins and burdens into the hands of the One who heals completely. Today I choose to stop resisting His care and let Him cleanse, strengthen, and restore every weary part of my soul.

ParticipantIt seems easy to fall into the carnal christianity, spiritual walk becomes nothing more than habit. I personally think that when we become comfortable in certain aspects of our lives it becomes even easier to fall into that state. Our minds tell us everything in okay, but spiritually we can be far from it.
