KeymasterMATTHEW 10 – GOT FEAR?
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28
There are many things in this world we should fear. A malicious intruder at your doorstep, wanting to hurt your loved ones. Or perhaps a violent tornado directed towards your home. Or, perhaps a war zone where the enemy has broken your defense and is in hot pursuit of your life.
It is a healthy thing to fear those things that could kill the body, but you should not compare them with what could destroy the soul. For such assaults against the body are temporary, while the assaults against the soul are eternal.
The fate of each person is certain. We will be born into this world, and by appointment, we will all depart. The enemy of our souls seeks to taint and destroy our bodies. But satan has no power over the soul. Such authority belongs to God and God alone.
CHALLENGE
My friend, it is wise to revere the Lord who has the keys to the afterlife. For the Lord Jesus has the power to judge righteously and condemn the soul to hell. Do you know Him? “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:12)

ParticipantIt is very easy to fear death for anyone, including I. We tend to go on about our lives thinking that nothing will destroy our souls once we pass on through this life, but it’s easy for satan to distill fear into our lives from doing what we want to do. By trusting in Jesus through the Father with all our hearts and soul, we then find comfort knowing that everything will be ok. Reading the Bible daily also helps when it comes to nourishing our soul with His words of love and affirmation and can pursue us to live our lives free from fear of death but only as a reminder that we will still fear death, but it will not be the end, only to be reunited with our Father. At the end of the day, satan has no control over your lives as ling as you continue to seek Him daily, picking up the cross and trying to follow in His footsteps.

ParticipantI am so thankful to know the Son. Proverbs 9:10 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (James, 2019) I thank God for a healthy reverence or fear of Him. 1 John 5:12 helps us to further understand that same reverence and fear, should extend to the Lord Jesus Christ. More than that when we fear, or esteem the Lord in his proper respect, we realize we don’t have anything to fear from man at all. When we are reconciled to God through salvation in Jesus Christ, we have proper relationship with God, and as we build relationship with Him through prayer & reading of the word we are made more and more into the image of God. Christ has given us power over all the power of the enemy & if God is for us he is more than the entire world against us. So even in perilous times not only can we rely on the Father to take care of us, but he has given us power to overcome the enemy ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit. Those are just a few scriptures that help me in times when the fears and doubts of life try to creep in.

ParticipantIt can be easy to focus on the list of scary things that as humans would be natural to fear, but this devotional calls us to remember how powerful God is. God operates on a much higher level than we can even understand. We should fear and respect Him more than any other thing. I think today there are many people who may have fear and anxiety in life, but they do not have fear and respect for God. Knowing that God is bigger, stronger, and greater than anything else is a great comfort and reduces some of the other fears. Having God’s love and presence in our lives helps us focus on Him. It is far better to focus on God than to focus on anything else. He promises to be with us, so spending time with Him and meditating on His Word brings us peace, love, and joy as He renews our minds.

ParticipantThe fear of the Lord truly is the beginning of wisdom, as Proverbs 9:10 teaches us. It’s not a fear rooted in terror, but in reverence and awe for the Creator who holds all things in His hands. When we understand God’s sovereignty, His holiness, and His power, we begin to grasp the weight of His wisdom and the foundation of true understanding.
This kind of fear isn’t about being afraid of God in a way that drives us away, but rather recognizing His greatness and submitting to His will. It’s the realization that, apart from Him, we have no true wisdom, and only by seeking Him can we find clarity and direction. As we grow in this reverence for the Lord, He opens our eyes to a deeper understanding of life, purpose, and truth.
The wisdom that comes from fearing the Lord is practical and eternal—guiding us in our decisions, relationships, and our walk with Him. It’s the foundation upon which everything else in life stands. Without it, all other knowledge falls short, but with it, we gain a perspective that leads to peace, understanding, and a life that reflects His character.

ParticipantThis verse emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the well-being of the soul over the body. It suggests that while it is natural to fear things that can harm or kill the body, such fears should not overshadow the greater concern for the soul’s eternal fate. The passage highlights that physical harm is temporary, but spiritual harm can have eternal consequences.
It also underscores the certainty of life and death, stating that everyone is born and will eventually die. The passage warns that while Satan may attempt to harm our bodies, he has no power over our souls. Only God has the authority over the soul, and it is wise to revere and respect Him.
I think this passage encourages a focus on spiritual well-being and a reverence for God’s authority over the soul, while encouraging you to consider your relationship with Jesus. -

ParticipantI tend to be a bit anxious and occasionally ruminate on the things I fear. What I notice about when I start to get this way is that it is usually because things are coming at me fast, or there is a lot going on, and I haven’t taken the time to go to the Lord in prayer. In a world full of things to fear, it is easy to get caught up. Thankfully, we serve a God with authority over it all. The things we fear, the things we love, the things we don’t love so much. He is there in the middle of it all, offering comfort and rest. No weapon formed against me shall prosper, and I serve a good who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly more than anything I could ask or imagine. In light of that, what is there to fear?

ParticipantLife is something that is taken for granted. However, we often think about our current life and living the way we want. We forget that the afterlife is eternal and our earthly lives are just a spec on the scale of that timeline. Thankfully, this is something that God prepares us for. Constantly giving us words of encouragement, and wisdom to live our lives with. It is nothing short of awe inspiring. Being able to rely on God through my troubles and trying to keep constant focus on what matters and the end goal are crucial to developing your own personal relationship with God.
