      MATTHEW 5 – BE FILLED

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

In this world, there is everything for the flesh. We can fill our stomachs with every sweet treat under the sun. For the flesh, we can bathe our bodies with ointments of every kind, from the top of our head to the sole of our feet. The world compels us to fancy beauty, stardom, and wealth; filling our temples with every carnal glory under the sun.

And yet, no matter how much we serve our bodies, the appetite of the flesh continues to be unsatisfied.

Why may you ask? Because in this world, there may be everything for the flesh, but there is nothing for the soul. For in this world, we aren’t born into the land of the living, but of the dead. And in this land, it leaves the soul destitute, wanting, and grossly deprived.

This spiritual vacuum deep within man can only be satisfied by the life-changing power of the creator God. And for those who “hunger” and “thirst” after God’s righteousness, “shall be filled”!

      CHALLENGE

Oh, there is so much in this world that we can fill our bodies with. Therefore, let us be wise and fill our spiritual pantries with God’s will. Let the saints of God feast on His word and drink of His spirit, for incredible blessings, await them who pursue God’s eternal righteousness

This world indeed leaves us wanting more, more money, food, pleasure and other miscellaneous things. I can honestly say that there are times when wanting “more” comes into mind. Having to remind myself that being with the Father and His incredible blessings will satisfy our soul. We crave for His word, to be with Him and share the gospel to all who are in that sense of depravity. For in this world, everything is only temporary. My only goal in this life is to be able to share the Good News to all and that they experience the same hunger and thirst for His righteousness and beat the flesh once and for all.

It is certainly true that this world overflows with indulgences of the flesh. Not all of them are necessarily bad, but anything that is placed above God is sin for that person. This can be food, shopping, or even a job. The world is full of things that can be blessings, as long as they are kept in their proper place. The minute we place these indulgences above Christ, we are in dangerous territory. To hunger and thirst after God is to recognize that only He can fill the void that no earthly pleasure can satisfy. This divine hunger is not weakness; it is the beginning of transformation. When we seek His truth, His presence, and His will, we are promised fullness. This isn’t just a temporary fix, but a soul-deep satisfaction that renews, restores, and empowers.

Matthew 5:6 asks us to consider what truly satisfies the human spirit. In a culture that often equates happiness with possessions, achievements, or status, it’s easy to chase after things that promise fulfillment but ultimately leave us feeling empty. The longing Jesus describes is not a physical appetite, but a spiritual yearning—a desire to live in harmony with God’s values and to embody justice, mercy, and humility.
Rather than viewing righteousness as a distant ideal, this verse encourages us to see it as a daily pursuit: seeking integrity in our actions, compassion in our relationships, and authenticity in our faith. Those who earnestly desire this kind of life discover a deeper contentment, one that isn’t shaken by changing circumstances or fleeting pleasures.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6
The world offers many things that satisfy our bodies but leave our soul’s empty. We can chase comfort, beauty, and success, but none of it truly fills the deep need within us. Our spirit longs for something greater God’s righteousness. When we seek Him, He fills the emptiness that nothing else can touch.

This verse reminds me that the things of the world can never truly satisfy us. We can eat the best food, buy nice things, or chase after fame, but our hearts still feel empty without God. The world gives us many things for the body, but only God can feed the soul. When we hunger and thirst for His righteousness, He fills us with peace and joy that nothing else can give. As a follower of Christ, especially on the Sabbath, I see this as a time to rest in God and fill my spirit with His word. Instead of focusing on what the world offers, we should focus on God’s truth and love. When we seek Him first, we will be truly filled and blessed in every part of our lives.

This verse makes me think of the saying money can not buy you happiness. I interpret this as even if you have all the money you will always end up wanting more. That is where I think this verse comes in because we can only be filled by God’s will. Although, money itself is not inherently bad it is the greed that consumes someone that turns it bad. This is even stated in the bible in 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”. Money is not the only thing people indulge in a lot of things that maybe are not inherently bad, but it slowly pushes them away from God’s Will.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 teaches that even though this world offers endless things to satisfy the flesh, such as sweet food, fancy products, beauty, fame, and wealth, none of these things can truly satisfy the soul. No matter how much a person feeds their physical desires, they still end up empty because this world only feeds the body, not the spirit. We are born into a world that is spiritually dead, which leaves the soul empty, needy, and deprived. Only God, the Creator, can fill that deep spiritual hunger within us, and those who truly hunger and thirst for His righteousness will be fully satisfied. Instead of filling ourselves with things that only please the flesh, we should fill our spiritual lives with God’s will, study His Word, and seek His Spirit, because the greatest blessings are given to those who pursue God’s eternal righteousness.

Matthew 5:6 reminds us that no matter how much we try to satisfy our physical desires, the things of this world will never truly fill us. We live in a culture that constantly tells us to chase after success, popularity, and comfort, but those things eventually leave us empty. What Jesus offers is different. When we hunger and thirst for righteousness, we’re craving something that actually lasts: His presence, His truth, and His way of living. To be filled isn’t about having more; it’s about being made whole in Him. True satisfaction comes when our hearts are aligned with God’s will.
