      • This week we are discussing computer fraud. Sometimes we think about fraud as a huge computer hack or ransomware attack.   But there are many types of fraud in our lives.   Sometimes it can be as simple as not telling the whole truth or being as transparent as we can.
      • For this week’s devotional, share about a person in your work, academic, or personal life who you appreciate because of their honesty.
        • What is it that they do that you sincerely appreciate?
        • What sets them apart from others?

We have been asked to discuss what we sincerely appreciate about someone in our lives that has been honest to us. I have decided to discuss own of my first bosses, George Nebe. He was brutally honest. At times I thought he was a bit harsh and abrasive. Now that I am older, I realize he was extremely fair. He did not sugar coat anything and made it clear that you knew where he stood.

What set him apart from others was clear. As he was load, direct, and extremely blunt. I feel that his directness at times was very intimidating at times. Again, now that I am older, I can really see his value in just being himself.

      God Bless,

      Kevin

      Kevin,

On a similar note, I have employee who is completely honest with me. When she agrees with me, she’ll state it out loud and when she disagrees, she also be vocal about it. She is a very good employee who I completely respect. I appreciate the honest and direct feedback. (Others who are less confident also know that they can feed her ideas and she won’t be afraid to state it.) I really appreciate the open communication and the employees love it because we can course correct quickly when necessary.

        Hey Professor,

I absolutely love that! Communication is about being effective, not always hearing what one may desire to hear.

Awesome stuff and I completely respect that sort of approach.

        Best regards,

        Kevin

For this weeks devotion I would have to choose my dad as the person I appreciate because of their honesty. My dad is a strong Christian man who puts God first and his family second in his life. My dad has taught me everything I know about being a great father, being a great man of God, how to do the work I do, and being a good person in general.

I guess for me what I sincerely appreciate about my dad is his commitment to being faithful to Christ and being an honest man. There have been several instances in my job when I have a customer come in with a problem and they think they need a new radio or speakers or want a remote starter installed on their car. If I figure out that there was just a bad fuse, loose wire or the car already has a remote starter on it, I am honest with the customer and tell them the truth. I got that honesty from my dad. He never lied to us growing up and never sugar-coated the truth either. I find in my life that it is easier to be 100% truthful 100% of the time than to try and remember the half-truth you told and keep the story straight.

What sets my dad apart from everyone else that I have relationships with in my life is the love for Christ that he has. Both my mom and dad center everything they do in life around Christ, His word, and His love for us. I try to pass that along to my children and I make sure I emphasize having Christ at the center of their lives and how important it is to be honest.

        Kelly,

I love that you considered your father. That is both awesome and sweet. You are very blesses to have a father like that. Your father is blessed to have a son that realizes the gifts of his father.

        Great stuff!

        God Bless,

        Kevin

      Kelly,

Honesty goes so far in business and in life. I literally interviewed a potential manager this week and asked him what traits he looks for as he hires engineers. He focused almost entirely on honesty and how he could train on many things and subjects but that you can’t change someone’s moral compass.

        Kelly,

That is the key. Success comes from the culture of the business environment. I very similar as in hiring as well. I investigate character and attitude during our interviews. I even hired what society deems as criminals that are on work release. I would interview these work release candidates the same way. Once I am able to see the good, I am delighted to train and coach them everyway that I can on the job.

        God Bless,

        Kevin
