      MATTHEW 21- HOUSE CLEANSING

12Then Jesus went into the temple [d]of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.”

      Matthew 21:12-13

The temple of the living God was a holy place. Man was to approach it with reverence and Godly fear. Gods temple was a place of sacrifice, prayer, and holy communion.

Although this was the case, the Hebrew people would become desensitized. When they were to revere the meeting house, they would defile it. When they were to come with a sweet smelling sacrifice, they took occasion and made merchandise of those things that were most holy unto the lord.

Today, God continues to petition His people to make His house a house of worship, a house of scriptures  and a house or prayer. Unfortunately, many churches who boast of their vast numbers and physical wealth, have made Gods house into a house of merchandise, In this case, “a den of thieves.”

      CHALLENGE

God is looking for servants with a contrite and humble heart. It’s Gods desire to have intimate communion with you. So much so that He has promised that He will

” dwell in them (Christians) and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16b

Gods true house is not made of wood and stone, but by fleshly members, the people of God.
