KeymasterMATTHEW 20 – SPIRITUALLY IDLE
3 And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Matthew 20:3-4
The Bible teaches that humanity is “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). In doing so, God created us for His glory and His kingdom for His purpose. He has predetermined a unique work, very specific to each person (Ephesians 2:10).
Although this is the case, many Christians are, spiritually speaking, “idly, standing around in the marketplace” while pursuing finite goals towards superficial ends. While many of these carnal objectives have their place in this world, much of it is like burnt-up chaff in the wind, having very little value in God’s kingdom.
While God has called us Christians to be fruitful and work in his vineyard, in this case, God’s kingdom, many of His saints are sadly occupied idly in a world that has monopolized their time, talents, and treasures.
CHALLENGE
You have been created for God’s purpose. He has called you for His glory. And for every saint, God has predetermined a spiritual work, “before the foundation of the world, to walk in it.”
Do you know Him? If so, Christian, it’s time to start working in God’s vineyard during the day “for when night comes, no man works.”

ParticipantLately, I’ve been recognizing a spiritual laziness in my life. My days are full and busy, yet they are more filled with distractions and earthly pursuits than with eternal purpose. Social media, productivity goals, and constant activity have subtly invaded my time, crowding out quiet moments with God or intentional kingdom work. Even during seasons of spiritual sensitivity, I’ve caught myself staying in the “marketplace,” sensing the call to the vineyard but hesitating. I’ve put off speaking with someone I felt prompted to talk to, missed opportunities for prayer, and ignored the unique ways that God has equipped me to labor.
Yet God is gently reminding me of the vineyard He’s prepared for me, a calling to minister to others, write, pray, and help individuals see how their lives are part of a greater redemptive narrative. I know I’ve been gifted and provided with opportunities, and it’s time to stop stalling. This week, I’m committing myself to a daily distraction-free hour with God and actually calling someone I’ve been challenged to call. They may be baby steps, but they’re my try at stepping out of passivity and into obedience. The day isn’t done, and I don’t want to waste it. Lord, assist me to labor faithfully in Your vineyard.

ParticipantI know that I have lost God and I have found my way back to him. Was I created for Gods purpose I would want to believe He has a plan for all of us. I believe he created us for our own purpose of learning and following his path he set before us to praise his glory and his word. I believe he has put struggles ahead of me to lose my faith and then find my way home. I have struggled with addiction and had to fall and let my God take the wheel of my life to learn I am at his mercy and will and I love my God and without him in it and his word and glory I would still be lost. God gave me strength when I fell it was him that picked me up. I spread the word of addiction and I am a peer to peer support counselor thru a local service that I listen and take and support other recovering addicts to know my story and thru my recovery let them know at least they have one person who believes in their recovery and I believe that is Gods purpose for me and the path he set before me today.

ParticipantI was created for a purpose, God’s purpose. He gave me a plan in mind, and my life is meant to bring Him glory. Even before the world began, God had good works already prepared for me to walk in. That means I’m not here by accident, my life matters because He made it so.
I grew up in the church and knew about God, but in recent years I’ve drifted. Still, deep down I know He’s calling me back. If I know Jesus, then I have a part to play in His kingdom. It’s time for me to get to work in His vineyard to love, to serve, and to share His truth while I still can. The Bible reminds me, “Work while it is day, for night is coming when no one can work.”
Even though I’ve been distant, God hasn’t let go of me. He still loves me, calls me, and wants to use me. I’m ready to answer that call.
