MATTHEW 25 – BURIED TREASURE
“He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money.” Matthew 25:16-18
In 1776, the founding fathers for the United States boldly stated in the Declaration of Independence that “[w]e hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Preamble to the Declaration of Independence)
Like unalienable rights that a person receives when born, God endows a believer a spiritual gift. This gift isn’t a natural ability, it is an attribute-supernatural. This heavenly gift can be more present in some “bona fide” Christians, nevertheless, a spiritual gift is possessed by every believer.
Like an investment, God expects each Christian to labor in this spiritual gift to receive a spiritual investment. What does this mean? It means that each believer is to “work out” their salvation and exercise their spiritual gifts, no matter how big or small, with fervency and tenacity.
CHALLENGE
Unfortunately, many believers have received a plethora of talents, only to do very little with them – and sadly, in some cases, buried them.
May you be that servant that has taken all your time and talents, faithfully laboring the Lords work. So at the end of your life, you are worthy to hear from God Himself,
“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:23)
