MARK DEVOTION 8 – WHO AM I?
And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am? (Mark 8:27)
This is the most critical question anyone may ever consider. Who is Jesus, or more importantly, who is Jesus to you?
Some say that Jesus was a madman. While He was very persuasive with His works and verbal ministry, one may assume that only a crazy man would believe something so lofty. After all, what person could genuinely believe that He was God in the flesh? Man’s flesh is sinful, filled with ungodly passions. Knowing this, one may ask, how could God come in the flesh?
While some say He was a madman, others claim He was simply a liar. After all, only a sound man would realize that sinful nature and sinless nature are unreconcilable. Knowing this, any man who would claim that He was God could only assume that Jesus was lying.
While some say that Jesus was a madman or a Liar, others believe He was exactly who He claimed to be – GOD! Jesus was the very manifestation and fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. The Bible says that Jesus was God. In John 1:1, the apostle John writes, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” and “the Word become flesh” (John 1:1, 14). Jesus was the “Word,” the coming messiah that “came in the flesh!”
